It think it is fine for important topics to resurface after a healthy
gap (say 4-6 months). With new people on the list the discussion will
be completely different. For example, the discussion of several months
ago on shipping was more a "how to" discussion versus the current
"don't, and this is why". But if we just discussed something in detail
a good reply is "Check out the mm/dd archive."

Point well taken! If we increased the number of side discussions and
personal one-on-one replies and were more selective about messages
broadcast to the entire GML, I think this very fine gerbil resource
would be even better.
