Sometimes it's a little too warm. What temperature was the room?
Mine go from 'nests piled to heaven' and tightly curled up in the middle,
to sprawled out on separate corners on bare cage bottom like discarded
fur chunks. Depending on how warm it is. They prefer to sleep together
so will do that to the last possible bit..then give that up and sprawl
by themselves.

That is why you got chomped! <g>
>Did anyone have a similar experience? Is it normal for them to fall half
>asleep on their floor?
Yes. They sometimes seem to prefer to sleep elsewhere, and it was
not a total sound asleep sleep, but as you caught them, a doze. Like
you going and falling asleep on the couch on Sunday afternoon.

If I feel there might be something wrong, I gently wake them by reaching
in and disturbing bedding somewhere in the cage....and if they 'get up'
and are otherwise ok, then I leave them be.
