We have a platform in our gerbil tank that the boys build their nest under.
However, they are often found sitting on top of the nest (on the platform)
or over in one corner half asleep. One day, we noticed Frodo was grooming
Sam on top of the nest. The next time we looked they were asleep with
Frodo draped over Sam's neck/back, like he had fallen asleep in mid-groom.
It was so cute.
So it is very normal for gerbils to sleep somewhere other than their nest
and to lay on each other when they do it.
