C: Taking Gerbils Outside

Hello again. I was just wondering if it's safe to take a gerbil outside into my backyard on the lawn? I'm aware of potential predators, so I'd keep a close eye on them...but I'm more concerned about the possible mites/ticks/parasites that may be in the grass. Can anyone offer some advice?   Thanks, Jason
