Hi....

We just got our first gerbils (both females and I think they are sisters)
about a week ago. We bought them at a pet store so have been keeping a
close eye on them. Anyways last night my 8yr old daughter was trying to
play with them (you need to know that we have never had pets this small >
always had cats, fish or birds< ) and somehow pulled the skin and fur off
one of the tails. Today both gerbils (their names by the way are Thelma
and Louise, and this happened to Louise) seem to be just fine. I have
seen Louise get in the exercise wheel and run, she isn't lethargic or
anything. I have seen her eat and drink also. But either she or Thelma
chewed off the part of Louise's tail that has no skin. Her whole tail was
about 2 1/2 inches long, she lost probably an inch worth of skin and fur
but this morning there was only about a quarter of an inch worth of tail
left that had no skin and fur on it. What I am wanting to know is if
Louise is going to be alright, is there anything special I can do? My
fiancee' said that he had a gerbil when he was young and it lost the skin
and fur off of its tail and it was fine, the tail eventually grew back.
Is this true or not? Not that I am trying to second guess him, he is a
very smart man, but that was quite a few years ago, so thought I would
get some other opinions.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Sincerely,
Our1stGerbils
