Use kritter keepers. These are see through plastic containers
with well ventilated snap on tops, and clear 'access' doors
in the top. One size up from the very smallest (about $8 each
at PetSmart) for each gerbil...or if you get a pair that already
know each other from the petstore, you can use the next
size up from that, and put them together (ONLY if they were
together at the store and not fighting). Give them lots and
lots of finely ripped up unscented undyed toilet tissue or half
fill the container with your usual clean bedding. They can
burrow in and snooze on the way home, and probably will
if it's not warm. Keep the keepers out of any draft in the
car, and the gerbils should make the trip just fine.
If you don't have the containers already, you can buy them
at the petstore, and also buy a container of bedding, and
set them up right there. Just make sure to fill the keepers
half full, and also grab a little of the food from the cage
they were in. This will give them something to do other
than gnaw their way out....
