On the whole, gerbils either sleep, or are curious. Anything else
suggests a problem.

Other behaviour patterns include thumping when inviting sexual
intercourse or when signalling a warning. If gerbil's ears are erect
is generally happy and alert. If the ears are folded, it strongly
suggests the gerbil is unhappy.
