There's two kinds. One is a sort of moving dust speck, they're
really small. The others look either black or red, and are small
moving specks. Both bite and you will scratch a lot.
To tell if you have them, take your animal and swaddle them loosely
with white unscented undyed toilet tissue or a few white paper towels...
leave the head of the animal sticking out. Observe the towel by the
head for about a minute. If they have them, you will see them moving
off the animal onto the paper, and they will be visible then. Do this
with adequate light, as the bugs are very small.
If you do, then you have to start the clean and spray routine, to
get rid of them. If you search the FAQ and archives of the forum,
and use the search term 'mites' you will get a lot of good information
about how to get rid of them.
