There is a piece of shareware that is ideal. It is called iBreed and is
available from:
http://www.ibreed.ukgateway.net/index.htm
This program allows you to enter your gerbils and record breeding,
veterinary and other types of info. It will generate birth certificates,
pedigrees etc. By using Word templates you can customise the style of
the output.
The program will predict genetic info. For example, if you breed two
blacks and get a lilac in the litter, it will calculate that the parents
are both carrying the pink-eyed dilution gene. Advanced users can
customise the genetics and can even add new colours, and with a bit of
care, new genes.
I helped produce the gerbil genetics module, previously the program only
had rabbit genetics. It is planned to have a large range of animal
genetics covered. I have no financial stake in sales of this program.
The version you download only allows for 50 gerbils to be entered. To
enter more you need to pay for the either the version without genetics
at 45, or the full version at 55. I have negotiated a discount for NGS
members meaning the price can be as low as 25 or 35..
NGS members pay between $7 and 15 for membership depending on age and
whether they live in the UK or not. So you can see that if you want to
buy iBreed it is worth joining the NGS as you save straight away.
If you want more info on joining the NGS, or if you have tried iBreed
and want to make use of the discount, please e-mail me privately.
