Food Questions

Hello everyone...I just have a couple of quick questions regarding the feeding of my gerbils.   Right now I am using a hamster mix (bought from the store). I have been told that the mixture is too rich for gerbils, however since I have 4 gerbils in the same tank I figure that it will be divided evenly and shouldn't be a problem. Am I thinking about this the wrong way?   Also, I used to give my gerbils food in a bowl in the middle of the tank and they either dug all the food out of it or burried the bowl. Even since then I have just been dumping food into the tank and letting them scatter it and burry it as they please...I know they can find it when they're hungry. Is this a good idea or not?   Thanks, Jason
