I went out today with my mom in hopes of getting a little christmas shopping done. Well, we made the mistake of stopping at the mall's pet shop...anyway, I skipped right past the dogs (because just looking at them in those cages makes me really sad), and went to look at the gerbils. I had NO intentions of buying any, but I saw that one aquarium had a group of little ones, and my heart just melted!!! There were two aquariums, actually, and one of them held only one gerbil (let me tell you, I really wish now I had bought that poor loner, because he must've been rather sad in there by himself!)...anyway, it didn't take much convincing for dear old Mom to let me get another pair, so now I've got a total of 6 gerbs! Not a lot compared to a lot of you, I know, but I wanted to share the good news! ;) I now know why many of you say NOT to buy them from pet shops, though...well, they're both perfectly friendly, but the pet shop workers can't sex them at all (I can't talk, I'm not so good at it either, since I've never had to try before, so if I email you all later on announcing a pregnant gerbil, then you'll know why!)...one of the gerbs is so young that Mom says it looks like his eyes have just opened really recently (he's all squinty-eyed, but he doesn't look sick, and he's really active, just small). Do any of you breeders know how old he might be? Anyway, if he was too young to have been taken away from his mother, how should I go about taking care of him? He eats the seeds and stuff from the dish, so I'm hoping he'll be alright, but if there's anything else I should do..? The other gerb is a little bit bigger, so I'm not worried so much about that one. Anyway, that's about it...except I'm wondering about the colors, now! The Color Palette didn't help me with this pair like it helped with Chloe and Cecilia, so I took some pictures with my borrowed digital camera to see if the rest of you could help!! They aren't too great (because the camera isn't really high quality), but you should get SOME idea of what they look like...the small one is a brighter orangey color than the other one, which is a paler, dusty brown-orange. http://www.geocities.com/pageofluff/gerbil2.jpg (This is the small guy) http://www.geocities.com/pageofluff/gerbil4.jpg (I think this is the small guy, too, but you can see the spot on top of his head better) http://www.geocities.com/pageofluff/gerbil5.jpg (both of 'em, but the one standing is the larger of the two) Anyway, if any of you can help me with telling what colors my new gerbs are, I'd be REALLY grateful! :oD ~*~Amber~*~ And...
