This is usually true for me as well, but I did give "Grandpa" Rascal & his
pal Pookie a roll once that didn't get wasted.  I sat and watched while
Rascal half-buried it, then every day one or both of them took from it to
add to their nest.  I think they're the only ones I've seen do that.
Perhaps it has something to do with them being in a 20 gallon tank, so they
can bury it pretty easily.
