I should perhaps clarify my earlier comment. I did have some respiratory
infections while using Carefresh, just not as many. Toward the end of my
breeding I was beginning to suspect a genetic trait toward allergies that
was causing a lot of the problems. I still have problems now and then with
one of my grown gerbs having sneezing fits and red noses, but since I
started keeping EVERYBODY on Carefresh it isn't as bad. I guess the bottom
line is that they can potentially be allergic to anything (which in my case
is what I think caused most or all of the respiratory problems) but for most
Carefresh is the least likely to provoke an allergy attack.
When I finally get to breed again I am going to attempt to outcross with a
gerb with little or no family history of allergy/respiratory problems.
