I've noticed in my pups a dramatic (and short-lived)
behavior change for a few days right after they open
their eyes. Where before they are relaxed in my hands
and being outside the tank, when the eyes open they
get hyper-nervous, tense, and jumpy and will leap away
and zip off at lightening speed.

Anyways, a big lesson learned today...
20 days old is not the good time to try to get a
"family portrait" of six pups playing outside of the
tank, especially if your doing the photography on your
own!

Within seconds, my spotted LCP DEH pup shot away and
by the time I scrambled and got the other five back in
the tank he was nowhere to be found. I know they "go
for the corners" at that age. But no luck.

The best possibility was under a very heavy cabin bed
with a 1 1/2 inch space to crawl under. First I sent
Dad in to get her. He happily would go in and come
back out (so I wasn't down two gerbils) but did so
several times without a pup in tow.

So I put dad back into the tank and put the whole tank
down next to the bed, and went off to get a
flashlight. By the time I got back (big sigh of
relief) the little pup was pawing away at the tank
trying to go home.

Well that was my gerbil adventures of the day, and btw
I did get some great picture of the pups -- in the
tank -- nesting with mom & dad.
