I tried to direct introduce a small 9 week old and a 6
week old (females) the night before I was going to
place them. I thought this would be a piece of cake.
Turns out the six week old was a brat she wasn't
biting or hurting the other pup, but would chase the
slightly smaller 9 week old around the tank, tearing
after her at top speed. I really think she just
enjoyed the chase plus watching the 9 week old propell
herself straight in the air and bounce off the screen
cover.
Fortunately I had another 9 week old slightly larger
than the 6 week old so tried them together instead.
This one saw no reason to run so the two immediately
starting grooming, gnawing cardboard, and nesting
together -- smooth as can be.
The interesting thing is that the six week old learned
the springing behavior from the first (failed)
introduction. Just for fun she started springing
straight in the air and trying to cling onto the
cover. Her parents are a relaxed and content pair so
she'd never seen this from them. It was a riot to
watch her. And so interesting to me that she could
learn a new behavior after such a short exposure and
copy it.
Well I'll stop yapping for tonight. Thanks for
listening.
