After a fight like the one you've described, the chances of reintroducing
the two are slim, and should probably not be attempted. It is highly likely
that another fight would break out, not necessarily immediately but
eventually, and could be fatal. You definitely did the right thing in
separating them.

I would leave them separate for several weeks, giving them time to forget
each other and get a little lonely, then try to introduce new companions-
at least to the gerbil who was not the aggressor. As to the aggressor, you
could try introducing another companion, or, as you mentioned, he may just
be a loner and not like anyone else.

Hydrogen peroxide is not ideal for cleaning wounds. I would suggest
cleaning with warm water (damp cloth) and then applying a thin coat of
neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment. Don't put it directly in the eye,
and don't go overboard as some of it may be ingested when grooming.
