Hi Cinthia -- Sorry that she won't be able to become
part of your clan, sounds like it would be an ideal
gerbil home!

As far as advertising...first it is a hobby so it
"costs" me about 0$-$5 to place a gerbil.

I run ads in the town papers: the pay-for paper, the
free paper, and the want advertiser. The free paper
I've gotten more response from. I say something like
"Baby gerbils. Super tame, home-bred. Many colors.
Pair and complete setup $25. Off Exit 6, <my phone #>

I put together a complete 10 gallon setup for $22 and
sell it and the gerbil pups for $25. Just two gerbil
pups are $10/pair. The idea is to keep the prices
higher than feeder food (rats here are $4.50). I
would never give away a gerbil because that opens it
up for abuse.

I've also gotten response from my web site and the
link to it from the AGS breeder list. I think posting
pup pictures helps.

I also have ads on town bulletin boards (but made the
mistake of saying "gerbil pups" so a got a few calls
about dogs -- even though there was a picture.)

Sometimes I'll bring them "on the road" like to a
church fair. And a woman who does exotic animal shows
has a pair (and wants me to set up a boy tank, too) of
a LCPA and argente cream spot. She gives me a free
plug when the pair is part of the show. I want to get
into the local schools, too.

Also, I try to bring it up at opportune times. For
example yesterday at Walmart a woman was looking into
those plastic habitrails and overheard my daughter and
I say "gerbils", she asked my advice about housing --
so I told her she could get a pair and a good setup
through me and passed on my phone number to her.

My final resort is a good pet store in the area. I
provide only a same-sexed, nicely matched pair at a
time, and make sure they place them together. (People
like spots and colors). I place them through the pet
store at 6 weeks when they are their absolute cutest,
and take them back if they don't sell.

But even with all this advertising, I breed and place
just 1 to 3 pairs a month (I have one pair that only
produces twins and sometimes have a second breeding
pair). I'll put mom with a couple daughters or a son
for a breeing break and never have trouble getting a
breeding female back together with a male.

Anyways, long answer to a short question, but I'm
always looking for new ways to place gerbils in top
homes, too. I absolutely love breeding them and as
long as I can place them as I go, I'll keep it up.
