Hi Sarah!
My gerbils Tinsel and Adobe are about the same age as
your Puck and Pepper Anne, and are acting almost the
same way. Tinsel will present her rear, and Adobe
will sort of mount her, and then they both freeze,
like their parents just walked in on them. Then Adobe
will start grooming Tinsel's head, and she'll fall
asleep, and he'll go dig in the corner.
I had read that the male will mount/penetrate the
female about ten times before ejaculation occurs, so
I'm assuming what they're doing now isn't really The
Deed.
I'm hoping they figure it out one of these days! :)
