When he breathes I hear this loud clicking, which I think means that
there is fluid (or blood?) in the lungs...right? Upon further examination, I
can hear air coming in from the spine...almost as if its a punctured lung.
Im not sure though. Can someone help? Whenever he breathes its a struggle.
Will he heal on his own? He seems to be very tired...he has been up all
night with trouble breathing. He hasn't slept...and I dont think he's eaten
or anything. I did, however, take a needleless syringe and give him some
water. He coughed it back up though since he breathed it in instead of
swallowing it....
Please help! He is my favourite gerb and I dont want him to die! :(

TAKE TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY!

It sounds like he has a collapsed lung and other trauma. It could
very well be that there is bleeding into the lungs, into the chest
cavity, and other areas.

I doubt the vet will be able to help....and if they can it will be very
expensive.

I am sorry, but the animal won't survive without serious medical
attention.

I've never had anything that badly injured survive (puncture of
the chest cavity). And if it aspirated the water you tried to give
it, (breathed it in) then it will get pneumonia as well.

Plus if it is not drinking water, it will quickly dehydrate and that
will hasten it's demise.

At best, the vet can give antibiotics, perhaps draw off air and
fluid (i.e., blood) from the chest cavity, and subcutaneous rehydration
therapy.

Luck.
