As cheap as I generally am about gerbil supplies, a
few months back I splurged and bought one of those SAM
10 gallon tank toppers and hooked on all kinds of
tubes, a SAM wheel and a penthouse.
It's been the biggest dud.
I kept my metal screen on most of the time, but when
watching them I would try the SAM arrangement. I gave
it to my most hyper and athletic girl trio (Cara and
daughters). (In general any toy is assigned a tank so
as not to mix clan smells). They seemed to be anxious
when I put them into the tubes (they never go in it on
their own) and dropped back down into their tank.
Why? -- the height? being in see through burrows?
I've since moved this trio from the 10 gallon into a
29 gallon tank. I am thinking of taking the whole SAM
arrangement and placing it in the bottom of the tank
buried in part way litter. I know they will
eventually gnaw it all up, but I think they'll love it
on ground level.
