Indeed, gerbils are very cute. However, they are not dogs or cats. And,
humans are the worlds best jungle gyms as far as they are concerned.
To expect snuggles & cuddles, while there are exceptions, from a rodent is
not very realistic :) In general the best way to get the most pleasure from
a gerbil, or any other animal for that matter, is to accept the critter as
it is and do everything you can to enhance its life. Animals are not human
after all, and they are not capable, depending on the species, of meeting
our emotional demands. It is the humans responsibility to meet the critters
needs when we have chosen to become its steward.
