HI Donna,
Many young eat the matter from their parents-dogs, horses, etc....it is
sometimes for a defficiency and innate, sometimes 'mouthing' as babies do,
and usually disgusting :) :(
Supplements can be provided......oh and i believe it builds up the bacteria
in the offspring. not sure in gerbil case what could be lacking in diet or
nothing at all.....i would provide plenty of bedding if you delay cleaning
so long :)
