paper based cat litter

I made a huge mistake lately. I used paper based cat litter in my mice
colony tank. I thought it would absorb the odours that mice emit. PLEASE,
don't anyone ever use this stuff as floor litter as I lost all 8 of my mice
:( . I'm glad I didn't use it for my gerbils (I have 40+), degus (2),
hamsters (8),or my rat. apparently the mice ate it and then drank and well,
you can imagine what happened. I could kick myself for being so stupid.
