I can only give my personal experience.

With Carefresh and other paper bedding products, my gerbils noses get irritated from the fibers and constantly rub and chafe their muzzles. This results in swelling and temporary hair loss.

With wood based bedding, while there were no allergic reactions, I found that the bedding got sour rather fast. I now use it as a nesting material.

For bedding, I use corn cob bedding. I recently found, rediscovered, a local pet store where I got a huge 50 to 60 pound bag of corncob litter for $24.99. Normally I go to PetCo or PetsMart and get a 25 pound bag for $20.00. It pays to keep shopping around.

Can any elaborate on the pros -vs- cpn between Aspin and carefresh bedding?

Any studies done that have shown Gerbil preference?

Thanks in advance...
