I'm not a gerbil expert, but I've read that red mucous (sp?) around the
eyes or nose could be a sign of an allergy of some type, usually brought
on by the bedding they're on. You could try keeping him on plain toilet
paper and paper towels for a while and see if it clears up. Maybe the
other list members will have other suggestions.
