Well we have pretty much same problem with our male Otto a bout 5-6 weeks
ago ...
We thought it was whele we separated him from his female .. (now they are
toghter
again) ...
Anyway he was totally cold, breathe slow, take food but couldn't chew ..
I had him aboout 24 hours on KMR (kitten milk replacer) and Geomicyne (it is
some
antibiotic with vitamines booster- it is made by Croatian industry so you
can't get it
in the in US , but I am sure there is something similar available there) !
He was getting medicament (a few drops (by dropper)) every 3 hours and kmr
on
every hour whole afternoon, night and the next morning - when he finally got
body
temperature at that time he even "fught " to get medicament-vitamines
(before that
I had to "use force" to feed him)!
I gave him a few doses of vitamines, then he started eating baby food ....
and by the night
he switched to solid food .. a week after he was doing all the things he
did before ..!
Btw. I made two warm corners but he was pretty much avoiding 'em ...

...We hope it's not too late ...

Subject: HELP!!!! THIS IS A HUGE EMERGENCY, PLEASE REPLY!!! <TEAR>

Okay, I haven't been on this list for a bout a year now, but I'm back
because i have a huge emergency and I do not know what to do! I keep four
female gerbils in a very large cage and recently one had gotten sick. She
had her eyes closed, was very waeak ,couldn't barely hobble around, and had
slallow breathing. I hand fed her and kept her in a special cage separate
from the others. She got well after two days. She returned to the normal
cage today and there I found two more with the same problem. Excapt , it is
ten times worse. they are not moving and their breathing is very very slow.
I put them in the separate cage with a heating pad under the cage because
they are not producing heat for themselves and they're cold to the touch.
I'm really scared, I had found them with their ears and toes nibbled on. the
fourth gerbil is perfectly fine and still in the cage. They were perfectly
fine yesterday! I have put rubbing alcohol on the nips of the two sick gerbs
to prevent infection but now I'm at a loss for what to do. They will not eat
anything I give them(actually they try and then just lay there, legs
splayed, with it in their mouth. The large cage had contained, stuffing,
toilet paper rolls, lettuce, gerbil food, carrots, mint plant, water, and a
wooden block or two. Does anyone have any suggestions?I really don't wan to
loose these two, I have had them since they were born from my Bradine.
