Don't worry about it, your Cairo is being a completely normal silly gerbil. My littly
grey one did the same thing when I first got them (about six weeks old back in late
March). That's why I named him Ding-dum...onomatopeia for the sound he made when he
sent himself flying across the cage the moment he tried to stop running in the wheel!
He did that three times in front of my eyes, and who knows how many without me seeing,
before he figured it out!
