>Do the size of the bottle make any difference to its ability to feed out
water? Since gerbils drink so little, it seems to make sense that using the
small size (ie. 4 oz) is fine. But most starter kits and people use the
large ones (8 oz) instead. I'd rather use the small one so I don't have to
dump as much water (even my plants don't need that much), but only if the
size doesn't affect the water's ability to come out the nozzle.

It depends. The 8 (or in my case 10 oz) size is easier to get a bottle
brush into and clean...it's also harder for an animal to bang around
when full because of the size.

I don't know what brand you are using that is 4 and 8 ounce...the 5 and
10 oz ones I use are rounded ends, virtually unclimbable, (I do have a
few smart alec gerbs that can hang up there and manage to chew the
hanger nubbie off the bottle and usually ruin the bottle as well so those
bottles need to actually be inserted through mesh so they can't cling
and chew) and even if only partially full, will deliver as long as no
gunk is up the balls and the two parts closed properly on the gasket.

You don't have to fill the bottle completely full either, just make sure
you get it sealed properly and it should work just fine.
