I'll tell you one thing straight off, they can chew right through
PVC piping! I have a chewer, and as a play toy I had put in some PVC
piping for them to run through. Right now, she's gotten a good inch
into the thing, and this is in the matter of a month.
I would say if you have a habitual chewer, PVC piping is a bad
choice all around. If possible, I would suggest metal piping. And as a
texture for them to be able to climb straight up these things? I'm
thinking something along the lines of a bit of sand, just a BIT, mixed
with an adhesive, and just coat the inside. Make sure it's not too
rough, and also make sure you give it at LEAST 24 hours of airing time
(aside from the time it takes to dry) before letting them get to it.
Of course, this is just a suggestion, and as I've never tried it, I
wouldn't really know. :)

Hey everyone
I am in the middle of creating a second tank to house my gerbils. My plan was
to connect the two tanks using PVC piping. Can my gerbils climb straight up
these pipes? Is there someway to texturize the inside of the pipes if they
can't?
If not does anyone have any other suggestions to connect the to tanks. By the
way, one tank is 10 gal and one is I believe 20 gal.
Thanks
Erica
