Ive had that problem with Molly and Donte (the parents) and I went through about 4 weeks of it with Foxy and Jaws....What i did to get them used to me was for about 15 minutes a day to put my hand palm down in the cage, and let them sniff, crawl around on it (i didnt pick them up at this time) and then as they got more used to my hand being in there I started to move it an inch or so off the bedding and hold it there.....then when they got comfortable with that I was able to lift them farther up! Now I can get them out (when they want to be held) and I have a half a habitrail tube that i use to trick them when i need them out of the cage :)

I posted this sometime last week, but got no responce.  I would really like
some advice with this.  Thanx again. . . .

I've had 2 female gerbils for some time now, and ever since I got them they
always run away from me when I tried to pick them up, or even put my hand in
the cage.  I've tried to get them to walk onto my hand using treats, but they
just grab the treat and run to the corner.  And when I open the cage door and
hold my hand outside of it they put their front paws on me and if I move my
hand at all they run. This is getting very frustrating, especially when I'm
trying to clean the cage.  Is this normal?  What can I do to get the gerbils
to let me pet them and pick them up?
