We also use corncob.  I have three gerbils that developed an allergy to Aspen.  The others were always fine with it.   I also use plain white tissue for nesting.  I rip it into long strips and toss it in the corner.  The love to chew and rearrange it.   One thing that I have always love is to watch the different nest styles that emerge.  Some gerbils create elaborate whip cream style nest, other simple flat nests.    Janet Morrow President American Gerbil Society
