Please help me!

Hi, I heard from my sister that you are very helpful
when it comes to asking about gerbils. I am Amy's
sister babysitting her two gerbils while she's in Hong
Kong and I have the worst thing happen. I think I'm a
really bad babysitter. Yesterday, one of the gerbils
had an accident and unfortunately passed away. There
wasn't anything I could do. It just happened too
quickly for me to respond to prevent it.

But now the surviving gerbil looks so lonely. He just
lies there unless I come up to the cage and play with
him to make him move around. I know that gerbils are
very social animals and like to have companions. What
do I do? I don't want the other gerbil to regress and
become withdrawn or overly aggressive. I want to get a
new gerbil and somehow get them to become friends.
What do I do? How do I do it? What should I be
looking for in a new gerbil and how should I take care
of the gerbil I have now?

Please let me know soon. I'm hoping to go today to get
the new gerbil so our gerbil will not be alone too
long. I know it takes time to integrate them together.
But I don't want him to be too withdrawn by the time I
introduce the new gerbil.
