I've pretty much given up with keeping my 2 gerbils together. They've
had two fights in the past, and this morning I woke up to the aftermath
of a third. Both are still alive, although one seems livelier than the
other. I have them separated now, and I saw both eating. Hopefully
they'll make it through this one like they did the others...talk about
your feelings of guilt. It was probably stupid to leave them together,
but I think I only kept them together after those two fights because I
was so hoping they could get their act together, so to speak, and get
along. Considering this is their third fight though, I'm probably going
to leave them separated permanently. It breaks my heart to do it, but I
don't want to ever wake up to a dead gerbil. So, what do you all
think? Is permanent separation the best way to go? Is it possible that
I could leave them together for the daytime and only separate them at
night (which is when they've always fought) or would they forget each
other over night? I would like them to have at least some companionship
with each other, if it's at all possible. In the meantime I guess I'd
better go out and get a second water bottle. :-(
