i have kept mice and gerbils together in the past. a female gerbil of mine
fostered some orphan mice. although i did notice some mating going on
betwwen the species i knew that there would never be any offspring!!!

Funny, the date is not April 1st!

No, gerbils will not breed with mice. Some gerbil species will hybridise
though.
