I'm not sure about legalities and everything, but last year when I was
travelling I had a layover in St. Louis and was behind a girl in line with
a habitrail hamster cage that she brought on as carry-on luggage, and
stowed under the seat in front of her. I was flying TWA from St. Louis to
Seattle. I know she got it on the plane. However, I'm not sure if it was
just because it was sort of wrapped up in a japanese scarf with a handle on
top so it wasn't readily apparent what it was. I just happened to know
since I've got small animals of my own. You might call the airline and ask
"theoretical" questions, not giving them your name so that they can't put a
note on your ticket or whatnot. I'd be interested to know. I've been
*very* tempted to get a gerbil while in Seattle this year (they had the
*cutest* schimmels at this pet store, and since one of my gerbils passed
away while I was up here... :) )
