Hi Jessica,
Two mature females in a breeding situation is a known
super-high-stress environment for females that leads
to fighting/deaths. You can get a 10 gallon setup
with tank, cover, clips and a water bottle for about
$25. Each breeding female needs their own space.
With the mesh they can still smell, see and touch each
other. And a motivated gerbil is very good at getting
through just about anything.
Hope your clans do well,
Donna
