Hi!
I've been on the list for about a week now, and figured it was about time for an introduction.

My name is Jennifer, I'm married with two kids, John, Johnny (3.5), Joshua (barely 1).  I originally got one gerbil, Chocolate Milk (spotted slate male) a couple weeks ago for my eldest (who's three, so we knew from the start who'd be caring for them).  Then we learned that gerbils like company, so we added a black girl, Girl, knowing we'd get babies but also not afraid of that (we used to keep chinchillas before we had kids).  We got the first gerbil from our local PetSmart and the second from a local store.  Both stores I've bought fish from regularly and have found them very reliable.  Meanwhile, I'd fallen in love with the little guys (as my son calls them).  My husband is probably getting tired of finding me downstairs in my son's room watching the gerbil on their shelf.  So, after finding all the resources and info on the internet, I decided I wanted to start a kennel. Around this time I also fell in love with a little lilac male, Cottom Candy, at PetSmart.  So I bought him.  He didn't get along with the black female (he was probably brother to the slate), so now he's in his own cage waiting a friend.

We live in the Madison, WI area, and I know there are other folks from Southern Wisconsin around here.  If anyone has a DEH or red fox female baby in this area up for adoption (2-3 hours from Madison or twice that if you'll meet me partway), I'd love to hear from you offline.

Also, I've had trouble getting registered with AGS.  The website keeps asking for a password when I submit the form.  Any help would be welcome.

Subject: Eeek, FLEAS!!

I recently added another two gerbils to my family and I see they both have
flea's. I was pickin about 5 or 6 off of just one, and there is more. I can
also see little black flakes of what looks like dirt but what I think is flea
eggs. I know  using dog and cat flea medication is out of the question, along
with any flea medicine actually. Someone did tell me though that if I let
them roll in chinchilla dust it will smother the flea's..but how do I get the
eggs off? And the cage is going to need a good cleaning also.

Please help me, this is really importnant. I've had the new gerbils for three
days...they don't even do anything but lay and scratch..I'm really worried.
Please, dont purchase gerbils from petshops. .These ones looked really
healthy but I guess I missed the flea's crawling on them.
