> Salt and Pepper have been licking their waterbottle and their aquarium
sides today. They have food and fresh water. Are they craving salt? I didnt
know gerbils liked salt so I have never boughten any salt licks. Is there
anything I can give them to quinch their salt needs until I get to the
store?
CHECK THE WATERBOTTLE IMMEDIATELY. It may be jammed.
That is usually when an animal is looking for moisture, that they
lick surfaces, especially glass and smooth hard plastic.
If you are worried about them lacking salt, offer each one a 'treat'
of about a thumbnail sized piece of saltine cracker. It will have a
few grains of salt stuck to it.
>They have been nibbling on my finger and licking my hands....
>Is this normal?
Some do. They like the taste or you have a lingering smell
or taste of some food on them.
>Also, at the petstore I bought these corn on the cob things. Its just
dried corn still on the cob. Is this good to just keep in the cage at all
times or should they just be givin as a treat?
They are expensive, can harbor bugs, and otherwise can be
a mess. I usually skip offering something like that.
