It's not really that paper bedding is bad - it's a great solution when you come across those rare gerbils that are allergic to aspen and corncob is just too expensive in your area.
But paper has a tendency to soak up odors more. So the longer it's in the cage, the more urine and such builds up on it. Paper doesn't neutralize the smell, just amplifies it. For example, ever been in a port-o-potty. :P Now Carefresh I know nothing about, as I've never used it. Too expensive for my tastes. My gerbils enjoy shredding up the aspen chips really fine and adding the cardboard, tp, etc, that I give them. But the different things I've heard about Carefresh have given me a neutral opinion about it. I feel I'm not missing out on anything by using it. :) And the aspen smells so nice. hehe -Jackie I noticed a lot of negative statements about paper based bedding. So is Carefresh not appropriate bedding for gerbils? Thanks in advance, Kelly
