Okay, for the past week I have been trying to get two females together. I
used the split cage method, a wire mesh dividing a 10 gallon tank. The girls
(Iris a black and Wilma an agouti) have been snffing at eachother on either
side of the wires for five days. I have attemped putting them together
numerous times (about once a day). I start by holding one in each hand and
letting them sniff eachother, then I put them in the tank. They smell
eachother's scent patches and faces. One acts dominant over the other and
puts one paw on her head as if to say "stay there, I'm smelling you". They
walk away from eachother and then come back to smell again. This lasts about
two minutes, then they both become very tense side by side and before you
know it they are one big ball of fur rolling around the tank. (yes I have to
wear gloves the whole time) They are still in the split cage. Does anyone
have any suggestions? These are both older females who are mothers and VERY
DARN STUBBORN with eachother. :) Thankyou!
