I can't say I've ever seen that in any of the litters. Hmmm maybe they
were babysitting so mom and dad could have a night on the town? :) But
seriously, I think you did the right thing. I've seen the babies help take
care of the younger ones before though. If it becomes a chronic problem
then I'd consider removing your 7 week old's. Are you sure, they haven't
taken them in because mom has rejected the babies? If this is the case
you'd have to do some supplemental feeding on them. Definitely an unusual
situation.

On a funny sidenote. Chocolate and Tim decided to transport their nest
into their wheel the other day. (They have a plastic habitrail wheel which
they won't chew cause they love it so much) They took three of the babies
in and were running around with the babies trying desperately to keep up
with mom and dad. (Needless to say they were tumbling around a bit - 10
day old babies don't do so great at keeping up although those little guys
sure can motor around the cage) Anyway, I intefered and transferred the
babies back to the nest with the other 2 who were happily sleeping in their
empty little nest. Then I had a little talk with Mom (Tim) about letting
her babies play in the wheel until at least their eyes are open. They keep
taking nesting material into the wheel *sigh* Watch her lay her next litter
in their so they don't interfere with her ability to 'play'.
