Hi Don,

Personally, I always use the split cage method when introducing gerbils.  I normally 
will see how the gerbils react to one another through the split, then try them 
together, being ready to jump in if there is any sign of aggression.  I've only had 
one injury so far with this method and that was from my somewhat insane PEW female who 
just will not tolerate other gerbils in her space.  I've seen 2 5 week old females 
chase an older male around the tank when trying to do an intro.

I actually plan on bringing together two litters - both born on New Years Day when 
they reach 5 weeks and split caging them for a day to allow them to get used to one 
another before introing them.  I want them to be together to make it easier for caging 
purposes here.
