Hi all. I just happened to stumble upon this post...it appears as if the GDK drawing code will be marked "deprecated" with the upcoming GTK+ 2.22 release. Gerbv will still compile with 2.22, although this probably means the GDK code will be stripped out with a future upcoming release (maybe the 3.0 one?), at which point gerbv will not compile.
http://blogs.gnome.org/otte/2010/07/27/rendering-cleanup/ We still have some time, but we should do another poll on the speed of the cairo rendering on users computers and see if we can at least use Cairo as the default renderer with the next gerbv release, and start working on eventually getting rid of the GDK code (it routinely gets bug reports for some of its inaccuracies too...) Also, I happened to find a couple posts about speeding up cairo rendering by doing some extra math to round all shapes to pixel boundaries. If I have time in the next months, I may try out some algorithms and see it they actually make a speed difference with the cairo code.
