You go and rock on with your bad self buddy. I think you're doing great work and totally support your heroic efforts to implement a spec that is not as clearly written as it should have been. Apologies for any grief you've felt - hope it doesn't turn you off.
I absolutely agree with you that implementing to the spec takes precedence over the RI, especially since the RI, as you said, has demonstrable defects.
