That works great, but if I now find a new insertion point and click the Tab key
it adds the tab where the curser was previously.

You can do something like this:
Function KeyDown(Key As String) As Boolean
dim Spaces as string = " "
If key = chr(9) then
me.SelStart = Len(me.text)
me.SelText = left(Spaces,5)
return true
End
End Function
