Or get your Mac to start behaving, using various standard voodoo -- check Mac support forums for examples. Or ignore the problem by keeping your preferred version of RB in the doc, and dragging documents onto it if it's not already running. And so on.

Except it does not go along with RB's previous statements that it's ok to keep older versions on the machine simultaneously with the newest.

Not at all. It is OK; I do it and many other people do too. It's not RS's fault if the Finder is confused on your machine.
