Two other thing I should have mentioned:
1. Clicking in EditFieldX does not reveal its scrollbar's slider, I have to 
click in the scrollbar area itself
2. I do not use File/open to open the file, I double-click on the file.
Any suggestions?

At the end of your File-Open event put:

Editfield.SelStart=0
Editfield .SelLength=0
