Looks like GIMP has the day. Thanks.
The manual looks a bit of a horror but that's ok. I'm sold...the price is
right! Downloaded and installed. Does more than I want.

Pop along to www.gimp.org
GIMP is a great Open Source Imaging program for RGB Images (like what
you need),
it's free and works on GNU/Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.
