I pressed buttons on the Real website to upgrade the version I have

an order of magnitude guess of what it would cost to upgrade if I
needed to do that.
And by the way, I have since gone out and bit the bullet and bought
an intel MacBook and transferred my RealBasic 5.5.4 to the new
box. Seems to work so far.
Yes, but it will run under Rosetta (Apple's emulator for non-Intel or
Universal Binary (UB) Software) so it will be slower. Rb 2006r4 has a
UB version that will run natively in Intel Mac and thus will run much
faster on the new Apple computers. You may not notice it until you
have it as the upgrade in hardware alone has probably been significant.
Since the Upgrade for Rb 2006r4 Standard is only twice the price of a
5.5.5 CD, that might be the best option to consider. The new IDE is
quite a different beast, however, once you get used to it, you should
find it more flexible and rewarding :)
If you upgrade, you will also find a different type of license. It is
time based, as opposed to release number, and will allow you to use
all upgrades released during your subscription period. These releases
will also run after the period purchased expires as the older
versions currently do.
As always, if you have questions in this area, you should contact
