Actually its been just ideas tossed around between us. I have brought up
the idea of a new console system several times on several mailing list to
get more people involved. Its just no one is interested right now. Once
2.4.X is out people will begain to look at 2.5.X and this is the kernel
that will have multiheaded support. So interest will build. Also the
changes must come in small patches at a time. I have learned this the hard
way. Big patches will just be ignored :( What is needed is a seperate
mailing list to discuss these ideas.
P.S
Since you have been playing with the concept of mapping resources to
userspace I have something that might be of interest to you. This will be
fully introduced in the 2.5.X linux kernel and is the core of Solaris and
IRIX. Its called the splice I/O model. Its at
http://www.bitmover.com/lm/papers/splice.ps. Actually Larry McVoy home
page has lots of good stuff. The amusements section is really good. His
home page is http://www.bitmover.com/lm
